Cape Cod Times: "Area athletes lament lost Northeast-10 season"

Matt Goisman of the Cape Cod Times recently spoke with Bentley athletes Jack Kennedy (football), an All-NE-10 honoree, and NE10 Rookie of the Year Ingrid Murphy (volleyball) about the shutdown of the fall season.

Ingrid Murphy had so many reasons to look forward to her sophomore year at Bentley University in Waltham. Murphy, a 2019 Barnstable graduate and former state champion with its girls volleyball team, had earned a starting position as a freshman outside hitter with the Falcons, helping the team to its first Northeast-10 Conference championship since 2006 and a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

"Going in, I definitely did not expect to just be given a spot," Murphy said. "During preseason I really had to prove myself to my coaches and to the other girls on the court that I'd be playing with on the court that I can hang with them and I can respect how they play."

Murphy finished the season ranked second on the team in both kills (253) and digs (331) and third in aces (31), proving critical to the team's run of 16 consecutive wins from Sept. 21 through Nov. 1. She wrapped up her season by being named NE10 Rookie of the Year in her sport and was ready to take on even greater responsibilities this coming year following the graduation of several high-scoring seniors.
