Athy Selected for CoSIDA Academic All-District 1 Team
WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior strong safety Nick Athy (Holliston/Hollison HS) has been named to the Division II Academic All-District 1 football team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Falcons' leading tackler will now advance to the national ballot for CoSIDA Academic All-America consideration, which will be announced next month.
District 1 includes student-athletes competing in the Northeast-10 Conference, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the Mountain East Conference and the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
Athy, who has played in every game since he arrived on campus before the 2015 season, led the 6-4 Falcons in tackles with 76, a total that ranked fifth in the NE10. He reached double figures in tackles in each of his last three games.
Athy, a recipient of the prestigious Gold Helmet from the New England Football Writers earlier in the season, had a nose for the football, finishing with four fumble recoveries, three interceptions and two forced fumble. His four recoveries was tied for the second most nationally in Division II.
Athy has also distinguished himself in the classroom, earning a 3.63 grade point average as a finance major.
