Sturm Becomes 3rd Falcon to Earn NE10 Football Rookie of the Week Honors This Fall

WALTHAM, Mass. – Following a standout performance in his first career start, Bentley University freshman quarterback Stephen Sturm (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley HS) has been named the Rookie of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Sturm becomes the third Bentley offensive player to earn the honor this season, joining running back Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Park, N.J./Bishop Ahr HS) and wide receiver Austin Ryan (Foxborough/ Foxborough HS), a two-time honoree.

In his first collegiate start, Sturm threw four TD passes, covering 5, 66, 32 and 10 yards, with the latter tying the game at Stonehill at 35-all with 49 seconds to play. In the 41-35 overtime loss to the Skyhawks, he finished an impressive 22 of 28 (79%) for 238 yards, no interceptions and a 198.61 efficiency rating, and also scrambled for 23 yards.

In a game-and-a-half since taking over for injured senior Mack Lowrie (Foxborough/Roxbury Latin School), Sturn has completed 28 of 36 passes (.778) for 325 yards, five TDs and no interceptions. He's been in a total of four games this fall with a .694 completion percentage.

Ryan was also recognized with selection to the NE10 Weekly Honor Roll. He had his fourth 100-yard receiving day of the season, with five catches for 126 yards, including touchdowns of 66 and 32 yards. Ryan is fourth in Division II in average yards per reception (24.1) and fourth in the NE10 in touchdowns (8).

Bentley, 4-3 overall and 4-2 NE10, is at home the next two weeks, beginning this Saturday against Southern Connecticut.
