Quartet Named Bentley Football Captains for 2016 Season

WALTHAM, Mass. – Offensive linemen Matt Biscardi (Holbrook, N.Y./St. Anthony's HS), punter Tyler Ford (Amherst, N.H./Souhegan HS), linebacker Bryan Hardy (Barnstable/Barnstable HS) and safety Sam McDonald (Norfolk/King Philip Reg. HS) have been named captains of the 2016 Bentley University football team, head coach Bill Kavanaugh announced today.

Prior to this week's game, Kavanaugh had gone with game captains, a role that Biscardi and Hardy filled four times, McDonald twice and Ford twice.

Biscardi, a 270-pound grad student who has spent time at both guard and center this season, will be starting his 39th career game when the Falcons host Stonehill College Saturday. A team captain last season, he's missed only three games during the last four seasons.

Ford, a senior, has been the premier punter in both Bentley and Northeast-10 Conference history. He's in the process of breaking the school record for the third straight season with his average of 44.2 fourth best nationally in Division II. For his career, Ford has averaged 41.4 yards to shatter both the Bentley and NE-10 standards.

Hardy, an Academic All-America® candidate, owns the Bentley varsity record in tackles (321) after topping the century mark for the second time in three seasons. The senior is second in the NE-10 in tackles per game, as well as 11th nationally in Division II, and has had six games this season with at least ten stops.

McDonald, a senior who'll be playing in his 43rd career game Saturday, has 17 career interceptions, a total that ranks second in program history (one shy of the school record) and is third most among active Division II players. Also a candidate for Academic All-America, he has 48 tackles and three interceptions this season, and is also among the conference's top punt returners (16  for an 8.5 average).

Bentley will enter Saturday's season finale with a 5-5 record.
