Lawrence Eagle Tribune: "Fourth time the charm for ex-Central star at Bentley"

Mike Muldoon, a sportswriter for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune, recently caught up with Bentley senior Matt McDermott, who has settled at linebacker for the Falcons after several changes of position and injuries. This article appeared in the Sunday, Sept. 26 edition of the newspaper and online at www.eagletribune.com.

Two season-ending knee injuries and three position changes in less than three years might make one think this college football thing just isn't in the cards.

Quarterback, wide receiver and tight end weren't the right fit but middle linebacker has been just right for Bentley senior Matt McDermott.

"I went through some tough times, I'm not going to lie," said the 6-2, 225-pounder from Merrimac. "I thought of all my options. I love football. I always have. I never really thought legitimately of quitting."

Heading into yesterday's game at Merrimack, he had 16 tackles (5.3 a game), tied for fourth most on the team, and a blocked PAT.
