Bill Kavanaugh wasn't looking to leave Happy Valley for greener pastures. The only reason the Bentley University alumnus said he and his family were packing up in Pennsylvania late last week to move on from one of the most celebrated programs in Division I college football was the chance to come home.

The Dartmouth native and 2004 Bentley graduate was named the new coach at his alma mater on Friday morning after six years as a Penn State assistant. He replaces Thom Boerman, who announced his retirement shortly after the final game of the regular season last month.

"When I first spoke with (Bentley athletic director) Bob DeFelice about the position I told him that Bentley was the only place I would even discuss leaving Penn State for," Kavanaugh said during a phone interview between filling boxes and making holiday travel plans back to Massachusetts. "I think Bentley is such a special place. It has so much to offer."
