Bentley Places Four on Academic All-Northeast-10 Football Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Four members of the Bentley University Falcons, including three graduate students, have been selected to the 11-player Academic All-Northeast-10 Conference football team, the conference office announced.

Earning the prestigious honor were quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS), wide receiver Wade Critides (Wayland/Wayland HS), tight end Bart Stires (Glendale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) and the lone undergraduate student recognized, junior placekicker Will Lockwood (Menlo Park, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep).

It's the third Academic All-Conference nod for Johnson, and the first for the other three.

Johnson, who is pursuing his MBA with a dual focus in accountancy and financial planning, started every game at QB for the Falcons the last three years and was a second-team All-Northeast-10 selection this past fall after earning NE-10 MVP honors in 2010. He received the Swede Nelson Award from the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston for academic and athletic excellence and was the only three-year captain in the program's history.

Johnson, ranked in the top three of all of Bentley's career passing categories (including number one in completion percentage), completed 201 of 305 aerials this fall for 2,418 yards, 26 TDs and only six interceptions. He led the NE-10 in total offense, and ranked ninth in Division II in passing efficiency.

Critides, who received his Bachelors of Science degree in economics-finance, led Bentley in receiving with 72 catches for 926 yards and five touchdowns. He topped the conference and was seventh in Division II in receptions per game, and was also second in the NE-10 in receiving yards per game. Critides finished his career number three on Bentley's all-time list in receiving yards (2,018), fourth in receptions (139) and fifth in TD catches (17).

Stires, who is working on his Masters in Finance after graduating Magna Cum Laude, returned to action this past season after injuries kept him on the sidelines in 2010. Primarily used as a blocker, he caught seven passes for 70 yards and one TD in his final season. He was a versatile player for the Falcons, seeing action at tight end, H-back, fullback and on defense during his four years in uniform.

Lockwood led the 2011 Falcons in scoring with 55 points as he converted seven of nine field goals, including a Bentley varsity record 46-yarder at New Haven, and 34 of 40 point after kicks. The corporate finance and accounting major also handled the bulk of Bentley's kickoffs.

Bentley, which finished the season with a 6-4 record, was the only Northeast-10 institution to have more than two players selected for the Academic All-Conference team.
