O’Brien, Branco Receive Weekly Honors from Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. -- Bentley University seniors Greg O'Brien (Canton/Xaverian Bros. HS) and Paul Branco (Brockton/Brockton HS) were both cited by the Northeast-10 Conference after leading the Falcons to a season-ending 27-17 victory over Stonehill College Saturday, a victory that earned the team a share of first-place in the conference.

O'Brien, a linebacker, was named the NE-10 Defensive Player of the Week, and Branco, a placekicker, was cited as the NE-10 Special Teams Player of the Week for the fourth time.

O'Brien closed out his collegiate career with a game-high 11 tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for losses for losses.  That effort helped the Falcons claim a winning record for the 20th time in 23 varsity seasons.

O'Brien finished the season with a team-leading 80 tackles, a fumble recovery, a forced fumble and an interception. His average of 8.9 tackles a game ranked fourth in the Northeast-10.

Branco kicked a 45-yard field goal, the longest in the program's varsity history, on the final play of the first half, and nailed a 29-yarder with 49 seconds left in regulation, giving the Falcons a two-score advantage. He also made three extra points to conclude the season at a perfect 33 of 33, and finished the year with a team-best 54 points.

In the first quarter, the Northeastern transfer intentionally kicked the ball short, away from the Skyhawks' outstanding receiver. It landed just inside the sideline at about the 25, took a Bentley bounce and wound up pinning Stonehill back on its own eight-yard line.

The NE-10 Weekly Honor Roll included  both senior QB Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS) and junior tailback Bobby Tarr (Byfield/Bishop Fenwick HS). Johnson threw for 243 yards and one TD, ran for another score and amassed 262 yards of total offense. He completed 21 of 32 passes to finish the season with a school record .659 completion percentage, and eclipsed both 2,000 passing yards for the season and 5,000 for his career. Tarr rushed for a career-high 149 yards, the most by a Falcon in three years, on 23 carries against the Skyhawks.

Bentley finished the 2010 season with a four-game winning streak and a 5-4 overall record.
