WALTHAM, Mass. – Brendan Sencaj hit his seventh home run of the season, and Eddy Beauregard homered for the third time this spring, as the Bentley baseball team split a Northeast-10 doubleheader against Adelphi Sunday afternoon.

Bentley 7, Adelphi 5

Sencaj belted his team-leading seventh home run of 2024 in the fifth inning to lead the Falcons to a 7-5 victory over the Panthers. Patrick Purcell led off the home half of the fifth by drawing a walk, and two batters later Tim Zupkus did the same. Next up, Sencaj ripped a three-run homer down the left-field line to push Bentley's lead to 5-1.

The Falcons added two more runs in the eighth inning. Sencaj led off with a single and moved into scoring position on a passed ball. He came in to score on a single hit by Steve Rizzuto. Tommy Bolton laid down a sac bunt that allowed Rizzuto to move to second base, and Beauregard smacked a single to left field, scoring Rizzuto.

Bentley set the tone early in Sunday's opening game. Cory Bright began the bottom of the first with a single, and Zupkus followed by drawing a walk. A wild pitch allowed Bright to score from second base, a a single by Rizzuto brought Zupkus home for a 2-0 lead.

Gabe White earned the victory by hurling three hitless innings out of the bullpen.

Sencaj and Rizzuto both finished 2-for-4 at the plate.

Bentley 4, Adelphi 5 (7 inn.)

The Falcons loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they were unable to at least tie the game in a 5-4 loss to the Panthers.

Bentley entered the final stanza trailing by two, 5-3. Rizzuto led off the home half of the seventh by drawing a walk, and Tyler Gonzalez and Beauregard followed suit. With the bases loaded, the Adelphi reliever committed a balk that allowed Rizzuto to touch home plate and make it a one-run game.

However, a strikeout and a controversial double play ended the game in favor of the Panthers.

Adelphi held a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning, but that's when Bentley got on the board. Rizzuto hit a leadoff double, and he came in to score on a single by Beauregard. The Falcons added another run in the fourth inning. Sencaj hit a one-out double, and he came in to score on a base hit by Gonzalez.

Bentley got its third run of the game when Beauregard smacked a solo home run down the left field line in the fourth inning.

Bright finished the game 2-for-4, and Beauregard went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

The Falcons have a quick turnaround with a doubleheader at Assumption Tuesday, April 16, starting at 12 p.m.
