Rizzuto Named Northeast-10 Player of the Week

WALTHAM, Mass. – After leading the Falcons to a 5-0 week, Bentley University senior third baseman Steve Rizzuto (Belmont/Belmont HS) has been named the Baseball Player of the Week in the Northeast-10 Conference.

Rizzuto slashed .524/.542/.952 while driving in 13 runs and scoring eight times. His 13 hits included four doubles, a triple and a home run, and he also handled 13 chances in the infield without an error.

Rizzuto was 4-for-5 with five RBI, four runs scored, two doubles, a home run and nine total bases in an 18-5 win at Saint Anselm and was 3-for-5 with three RBI, one run, a double and a triple in a 15-3 win at Saint Rose. His week finished with two hits and three RBI in a 12-8 victory at Saint Anselm.

The big week boosted Rizzuto's batting average to .311 and gave him 32 RBI, second best on the team. The four-year starter has a career average of .285 along with 104 hits, 87 RBI and 76 runs scored.

Rizzuto is the fourth different Falcon to earn Player of the Year honors this season, following in the footsteps of Eddy Beauregard, Stan DeMartinis III and Liam Sears.

Also recognized by the conference, with selection to the Weekly Honor Roll, was sophomore right-hander Marc Cedrone (Walpole/Xaverian Bros. HS). In a 15-2 win at Saint Rose, he pitched seven innings and allowed three singles and a run. He walked two and struck out eight. This season, Cedrone is 2-0 with a 5.12 ERA and 18 strikeouts in 19.1 innings.

Bentley, 20-18, will close out the regular season later this week with a pair of home doubleheaders against St. Michael's College (Thursday, Saturday).
