With a Triple and Grand Slam, DeMartinis III Powers Bentley Past Saint Rose, 15-3

ALBANY, N.Y. – Sophomore left fielder Stan DeMartinis III (Boca Raton, Fla./American Heritage HS) had an RBI triple and a grand slam during a ten-run seven inning as Bentley University trounced The College of Saint Rose, 15-3, in non-conference college baseball Tuesday afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field.

DeMartinis III finished the day with three hits, three runs scored, five RBI and eight total bases. Bentley, which improved to 16-18,  also received three hits, three runs scored, two RBI and a home run from senior right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS).

The Falcons opened the scoring with three runs in the third inning. Freshman shortstop Tommy Bolton (Tampa, Fla./Plant HS) had a one-out double to left and scored on a single in the same direction by Zupkus. Following a two-out infield single by DeMartinis, senior third baseman Steve Rizzuto (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS) made it 3-0 with a two-run triple to left.

After the Golden Knights (13-20) scored a run in the fourth, Bentley got it back in the top of the sixth. Three walks loaded the bases and graduate center fielder Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) forced one in when he hit into a fielder's choice.

The Falcons broke the game wide open in the seventh with the inning featuring a lead-off triple by Zupkus, an RBI triple by DeMartinis, singles by Rizzuto and senior catcher Brian Lindsay (New Durham, N.H./Kingswood Reg. HS) that drove in runs, a sac fly by Halloran and the grand slam by DeMartinis. The home run was his tenth of the season.

In addition to three hits apiece from DeMartinis and Zupkus, Bentley's 14-hit attack included three by Rizzuto and two from Lindsay. Rizzuto finished with three RBI and Halloran had two.

Sophomore righty Marc Cedrone (Walpole, Mass./Xaverian Bros. HS) pitched seven quality innings for Bentley, allowing only three hits and one run while striking out eight.

Bentley will begin a four-game series at Saint Anselm College Thursday at 3:30 pm. Due to expected rain on Sunday, that series has been moved up and will include a Friday doubleheader.
