Bentley Sweeps Stonehill, 5-2 and 7-5, in DeFelice’s Final Home Games

WALTHAM, Mass. – Graduate left hander Jared Brooks (Hollis Center, Maine/Cheverus HS) pitched a four-hitter in the opener and the Falcon offense scored seven runs in the first three innings of the nightcap as the Bentley University baseball team swept Stonehill College, 5-2 and 7-5, in the final home games of Bob DeFelice's 54-year career as the Falcons' head coach.

DeFelice, who has seen his team win the first three of its four-game season-ending series with the Skyhawks and six of its last eight overall, will close out his legendary career Sunday when the Falcons play at Stonehill.

Bentley, the designated road team, entered the top of the seventh of game one on the short end of a 2-1 score as Brooks and Stonehill righty Brendan Kelly (Hopkinton) were locked in a pitchers' duel.

The rally in the final frame of the seven-inning was ignited with graduate center fielder Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) being hit by a pitch and senior DH Charlie Auditore (Walpole/Walpole HS) drawing a walk. After a pitching change and an infield single by junior catcher Brian Lindsey (New Durham, N.H./Kingswood Reg. HS) that loaded the bases, Halloran scored the tying run on a wild pitch.

Junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton/Wachusett Reg. HS), a transfer from Stonehill, made it a 4-2 game with a triple to center. Those were his ninth and tenth RBI in three games this season against his former team. Beauregard added an insurance run when he scored on a single up the middle by junior right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS).

Auditore scored Bentley's first run after doubling to lead off the game. He advanced to third on an infield single by Lindsay and came home on a Zupkus ground out.

Stonehill (17-29, 6-17 NE10) scored its only runs of the game in the fifth when the Skyhawks had three of their four hits, along with a sacrifice fly.

Brooks, who pitched for Stonehill from 2018-19, became the first Falcon since 2013 to win seven games in a season, walked two and struck out eight in his final career start.

Bentley (17-24, 11-12 NE10) started fast in game two, scoring twice in the first, one in the second and four in the third to build a 7-0 lead. And once again, Beauregard was involved as he continued to haunt his former team. In the first, he doubled in a run and later scored on a Zupkus ground out.

Auditore had an RBI single in the second, and the four-run third included RBI singles by senior left fielder Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) and Halloran, as well as an RBI double to right center by sophomore second baseman Tony Gonzalez (Windham, N.H./Lawrence Academy).

Stonehill got back in the game with one run in the third, two in the fourth and two more in the bottom of the sixth.

Senior righty Brandon Ostiguy (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia HS) came on for the Falcons in the seventh and saved the win for graduate right hander Sean Mahan (Woburn/Matignon HS).

Zupkus had four hits and three RBI in the doubleheader while Beauregard finished the day with three runs, three RBI and three hits. Lindsay was 3-for-3 in the opener.
