Beauregard Homers Twice as Bentley Prevails Over Stonehill, 9-3

EASTON, Mass. – Junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton/Wachusett Reg. HS) homered twice to lead Bentley University to a 9-3 win over Stonehill College Thursday afternoon at Lou Gorman Field.

Beauregard, who played for Stonehill the last two seasons, led the Falcon offense with a three-for-four afternoon that included four RBI and three runs scored. In two games this season against his former team, he has three homers, five hits, six runs scored and eight RBI.

Bentley's 11-hit attack bolstered the pitching of graduate right-hander Jimmy Hodgson (Newton/Newton North HS), who went the distance in his final career start. He evened his record at 5-5 while scattering 12 hits and striking out four.

The Falcons jumped in front with two unearned runs in the first inning. A ground ball to short was misplayed, allowing Beauregard and junior catcher Brian Lindsay (New Durham, N.H./Kingswood Reg. HS) to score.

Bentley (15-24, 9-12 NE10) made it a 5-0 game in the fifth. Lindsay had an RBI single to right and Beauregard followed with his first home run of the game, a two-run shot to left center.

Beauregard led off the seventh with his second long ball of the afternoon, this one clearing the left field wall. Later in the inning, senior left fielder Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) had an RBI single up the middle and sophomore second baseman Tony Gonzalez (Windham, N.H./Lawrence Academy) had a sacrifice fly.

An RBI single by Beauregard in the eighth finished the game's scoring.

Beauregard's three hits were matched by Sears. Lindsay also had a solid game at the plate, finishing two-for-five with three runs scored.

Senior middle infielders Noah Lucier (Sandown, N.H.) and Matt Farragher (Mansfield) each had three hits for the Skyhawks (17-27, 6-15 NE10).

The series will continue Friday with a noon doubleheader on DeFelice Field, Coach Bob DeFelice's final games on the field that carries his name, and Sunday at Stonehill, the final contest in DeFelice's 54 years as the Falcons' head coach.
