Bright Drives in 4 as Bentley Takes Down Assumption for 3rd Straight Game, 10-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior second baseman Cory Bright (Melrose/Bishop Fenwick HS) had a career-high four RBI and a three-hit afternoon as Bentley University stayed hot with a 10-3 Patriots Day win over Assumption University in Northeast-10 Conference baseball on DeFelice Field.

The win was the third straight over the Greyhounds for the Falcons as well as their sixth in the last seven games.

After Assumption (17-14, 10-6 NE10) scored twice in the top of the first, Bentley more than countered with three runs in the bottom half of the inning.

The Falcons loaded the bases on a single by sophomore DH Jackson Walonis (Walpole/Walpole HS), a walk and a single by junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton/Wachusett Regional HS). Bright, who raised his average to .350, cleared them with a three-run double that sailed over the center fielder's head.

Bentley's second of a trio of three-run innings came in the third inning. Bright drove in the first on a single to left and senior left fielder Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) made it 6-2 with a two-run double to right center.

The Falcons added three runs to their total in the fifth as they capitalized on a pair of Assumption two-out errors.

In the seventh, a sacrifice fly by Walonis produced Bentley's final run.

Bentley's nine hits also included two apiece by Walonis and Sears. They each scored twice as did Bright and senior catcher Charlie Auditore (Walpole/Walpole HS).

Graduate pitcher Sean Mahan (Woburn/Matignon HS) earned the win after allowing six hits and two runs in his six innings of work. Senior Brandon Ostiguy (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia HS) pitched the final three and picked up the save. Both struck out four.

Bentley, 11-18 overall and 6-8 NE10, will remain at home for a four-game homestand with Southern New Hampshire, beginning Thursday at 3:30 pm.
