Bentley Uses 7-Run 3rd to Defeat Saint Anselm, 13-5; 5 Hits for Lindsay

WALTHAM, Mass. – Junior catcher Brian Lindsay (New Durham, N.H./ Kingswood Reg. HS) was 5-for-5 and was one of four Falcons to have both two runs scored and two RBI as Bentley University downed Saint Anselm College, 13-5, in Northeast-10 Conference baseball Sunday afternoon at DeFelice Field.

Bentley took charge of the game early with a seven-run third-inning resulting in an 8-0 lead. Two of Lindsay's hits came in the inning and he had a hand in three of the runs, scoring in one and driving in two.

There were only three hits in the inning with the other being an RBI double by freshman shortstop Alex Bodnar (North Andover/Brooks School). Senior left fielder Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) and graduate center fielder Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) were both hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, junior third baseman Cory Bright (Melrose/Bishop Fenwick HS) walked with the bases full, and sophomore second baseman Tyler Gonzalez (Windham, N.H./Lawrence Academy) had a sacrifice fly.

Saint Anselm (11-15, 4-4 NE10), which had won the first three games of the weekend series, closed to within 8-5 with a run in the fifth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Bentley regained control in the bottom half of the seventh, scoring four times. Junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton/Wachusett Reg. HS), junior right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) and Sears walked successively, all with the bases loaded, and Beauregard scored the fourth run on a wild pitch.

Bodnar, Lindsay, Beauregard, Sears and Halloran each had two RBI, Halloran scored thrice and Lindsay, Beauregard and Sears both crossed home plate twice.

Graduate right-hander Sean Mahan (Woburn/Matignon HS), a transfer from Worcester State, earned his first Bentley win with six innings of work. He allowed four hits and three runs while striking out four. The save went to junior righty David Morganelli (Norfolk/King Philip Reg. HS), who pitched 2.2 innings and fanned three.

Bentley (6-17, 1-7 NE10) returns to action next weekend with a four-game series at St. Michael's College.
