Bentley Drops 12-8 Decision to Felician; 4 Hits for Walonis & 3-Run HR for Sears

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Despite four hits from sophomore second baseman Jackson Walonis (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS) and a three-run homer by senior left fielder Liam Sears (Springfield, Mass./Pope Francis HS), Bentley University dropped a 12-8 decision to Felician University in non-conference baseball at Little Fenway Wednesday afternoon.

There were four lead changes, 12 pitchers and 26 total hits in the game which finished at the Santaluces Athletic Complex in Fort Worth following a couple delays, including one for lightning, and a time limit at Little Fenway.

Bentley went up 6-5 with two runs in the top of the sixth inning. Graduate center fielder Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) led off with a single and scored on a single to left by senior catcher Charlie Auditore (Walpole, Mass./Walpole HS).  Later in the inning, Walonis drew a bases loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run.

The lead was short-lived as the Golden Falcons countered with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. The only hit of the inning was a two-run single to center by junior third baseman Dauri Genoa (West New York, N.J.).

Down 9-6 entering the eighth, Bentley scored twice to cut the deficit to one. Junior third baseman Cory Bright (Melrose, Mass./Bishop Fenwick HS) had an RBI single and later scored on an error.

Bentley's chances of a comeback win were minimized when Felician struck for three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

The offense for Felician (4-10) was led by junior DH Edwin Tavarez (Garfield, N.J.), with three runs and four RBI, and graduate right fielder Jake Hall (Hoptacong, N.J.), with four hits and two RBI.

In addition to four hits from Walonis, Bentley's 14-hit attack included three hits by freshman DH Alex Bodnar (North Andover, Mass./Brooks School), two from Auditore and a three-run homer by Sears in the second.

Bentley, 3-10, will take on Post University Thursday at 11 at Santaluces.
