10-Run Fifth Inning Powers Bentley Past Stonehill, 18-2

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- Junior first baseman Eddy Beauregard (Paxton, Mass./Wachusett Reg. HS) drove in four runs, including three with his first home run as a Falcon, and junior third baseman Steve Rizzuto (Belmont, Mass./Belmont HS) had three RBI as Bentley University defeated Stonehill College, 18-2, in non-conference baseball Friday night at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium.

Down 1-0 midway through the fifth inning, Bentley (2-5) erupted for ten runs in the bottom half of the inning and added to its total with five in the sixth and three in the seventh.

All ten were scored after two were out. Graduate center fielder Kyle Halloran (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton HS) drew a bases loaded walk to tie the game and sophomore left fielder Joe Cacciatore (Lexington, Mass./Lexington HS) trotted home with the go-ahead run when senior DH Liam Sears (Springfield, Mass./Pope Francis HS) was hit by a pitch.

Junior right fielder Tim Zupkus (Middlebury, Conn./Holy Cross HS) drove in two with a single through the left side, Sears scored on a wild pitch, and Rizzuto made it 7-1 with a two-run single through the left side. An eighth run scored on an error, and junior shortstop Joe Boushell (Mansfield, Mass./ Wheeler School) capped the inning with a two-run double to right center.

The sixth inning included three hits, three walks and a Stonehill error. Rizzuto had the big hit of the inning, a double to right center.

Beauregard, a transfer from Stonehill, homered to center in the seventh with Halloran (double) and Sears (infield single) scoring ahead of him.

Graduate student Jared Brooks (Hollis Center, Maine/Cheverus HS), who also began his career at Stonehill, earned the win for the Falcons. The lefty pitched the first seven innings, allowing five hits and one run. He walked five and struck out five with the win his second of the season.

Bentley totaled 13 hits, including three by Rizzuto. Sears, Beauregard and Boushell each had two hits. Sears, Beauregard and Rizzuto were three of the four Falcons who scored three times, a group that also included Halloran.

On Saturday, Bentley will play a 1 pm game at 16th-ranked Rollins.
