Florida Tech Closes Out Series with 16-0 Win over Bentley

MELBOURNE, Fla. – Junior right-hander Justin Lorenz (Rockledge, Fla.) and three relievers combined on a one-hitter as Florida Tech closed out a three-game series sweep with a 16-0 shutout over Bentley University in non-conference baseball Sunday afternoon at Seminick-Hall Field.

It was the sixth win in seven games for the Panthers, who are averaging 13.6 runs a game so far this season.

The Florida Tech offense was powered by DH Diego Garcia (Atlantico, Colombia) and catcher Josh Ford (Melbourne, Fla.) with the two sophomores combing for five hits, four runs scored and seven RBI.

Ahead 2-0 through three, the Panthers erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to break the game open. Ford and Garcia played key roles in the inning with Ford providing a two-run single and Garcia driving in a pair on a sacrifice fly.

Lorenz, who picked up his first win of the season, walked only one and struck out six.

The no-hit bid was ended in the fifth on a single through the left side by Falcon junior Steve Rizzuto (Belmont, Mass./ Belmont HS).

Bentley will return to Florida for a four-game series against Assumption University Feb. 25-27.
