Sears & Ostiguy Selected for CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University rising seniors Liam Sears (Springfield/Pope Francis HS) and Brandon Ostiguy (East Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia HS) have been selected for the CoSIDA NCAA Division II Academic All-District 1 baseball team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Both will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America® consideration. District 1 includes student-athletes competing in the Northeast-10 Conference, the East Coast Conference and the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference.

Sears and Ostiguy both earned All-Northeast-10 honors this season after having seen only limited action prior to this past spring. Sears had been in only one game and Ostiguy had pitched only 10.2 innings previously. Ostiguy was a first-team All-Conference selection as a reliever and Sears was voted to the All-NE10 second team as an outfielder.

Ostiguy was also recognized with Division II All-East honors by three organizations, including first-team from the Division II Conference Commissioners Association. He was a second-team selection by the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Ostiguy had a standout season out of the Bentley bullpen, with a 3-0 record, a save and a 2.11 ERA in ten appearances. He struck out 27 in 21.1 innings, including five in 1.2 innings against Saint Anselm May 11, and limited opposing hitters to a .177 average.

Sears, the Falcons' left fielder and number five hitter, was number on the team in batting average, on base percentage and slugging with a slash line of .364/.468/.545. His 36 hits including eight doubles, two triples and two homers, and he drove in 22 runs.

In the classroom, Sears has earned a 3.39 grade point average as an economics-finance major and Ostiguy a 3.35 in data analytics.
