Berardino, Figueira Help Bentley Defeat Bloomfield, 9-5

BOCA RATON, Fla. – Led by senior first baseman Ryan Berardino (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) and senior left fielder Luke Figueira (Taunton, Mass./Taunton HS), the Bentley University posted a 9-5 win over Bloomfield College in non-conference baseball Wednesday afternoon at the Lynn University baseball field.

Berardino had both a two-run homer and an RBI double while Figueira was 3-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Bentley started fast with consecutive doubles by senior center fielder Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS), Berardino and senior shortstop Chris Hopkins (Malden, Mass./Malden Catholic HS) making it 2-0 in the first. The Falcons added one more in the inning on an RBI single by Figueira.

The Falcons, 4-9, made it a 7-0 game by scoring four times in the fourth, with the two-error inning capped by a Troiani sacrifice fly.

Berardino, a 2019 Red Sox draft pick, hit his seventh career home run in the sixth inning to finish the Falcons' scoring for the day.

In addition to the three from Figueira, the team's leading hitter at .353, Bentley's ten hits included two apiece from Troiani, Berardino and graduate third baseman Jake Pierce (East Bridgewater, Mass./East Bridgewater HS).

Graduate student Ryan Corriveau (Milton, N.H./Nute HS), a righty, struck out five in six innings of work to gain his second win of the season. He allowed six hits and one earned run. Sophomore Brandon Ostiguy (Esst Greenbush, N.Y./Columbia HS) registered a three-inning save after allowing one earned run and striking out four.

Bentley and Bloomfield (1-7-2) will meet again Thursday at 11 am at Little Fenway in Delray Beach, Fla.
