Troiani & Berardino Named to NCBWA Preseason All-East Region Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University seniors Max Troiani (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon HS) and Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) have been named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II Preseason All-East Region team.

Troiani, a center fielder, was selected for the first team and Berardino, a first baseman who was drafted by the Red Sox in the June 2019 free agent draft, was listed on the second team.

Troiani had a standout junior year for the Falcons, hitting .320 with nine home runs and 50 runs scored, and was even better during the summer while playing for the Orleans Cardinals in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League. He was the only Division II player to earn All-CCBL honors after hitting .345, ranking second in the league in hits (49) and fifth in on base percentage.

Troiani, who played in the Cape Cod League All-Star Game, has led Bentley in hitting each of the last two seasons and will begin his senior year with a .315 average and 129 hits in 102 games. His honors last spring included All-Northeast-10, second-team All-East Region, Academic All-Northeast-10 and CoSIDA Academic All-District.

Berardino, who was taken by the Red Sox in the 34th round but decided to return to Bentley for his final season, is a three-time All-Northeast-10 selection. He earned third-team honors in both 2019 and 2018 after being voted to the second team as a freshman.

Last spring, Berardino batted .296 with 24 runs scored and 22 RBI. His 42 hits included seven doubles and a home run, and he was errorless in 211 chances in the field. A .309 career hitter, Berardino was the sixth toughest to strike out in the NE10 last year with one every 11.8 at bats.

Bentley opens its season with a four-game series at Rollins College Feb. 13-16.
