Bentley’s Doubleheader at Southern N.H. to Air on NESN Plus, NESN National

WALTHAM, Mass. – When the Bentley University baseball team travels to Manchester, N.H. to take on Southern New Hampshire University Saturday, viewers from around the region and the nation will be able to watch the doubleheader on both NESN Plus and NESN National.  First pitch for the opener is scheduled for 12 noon.

The two teams were scheduled to begin the three-game series on Friday, but due to the weather, that game was postponed and moved to Sunday at 1 pm.

Bentley will head to the Granite State after winning three straight and six of its last nine. The Falcons, 6-2-1 in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division play, are coming off a 7-5 win over Stonehill Tuesday, a game that saw grad student Bill Sullivan (Carver/Carver HS) strikeout  a career-best 13.

Overall, Bentley is 8-19-1 this season with ten of the losses by one or two runs, or in extra innings.

Coach Bob DeFelice's Falcons will be facing a major test in Southern New Hampshire as the Penmen are ranked fifth nationally in Division II and own records of 26-7 overall and 7-1 in NE10 Northeast Division contests. They've won 15 of their last 18, including an 8-2 decision over Franklin Pierce on Tuesday.

Bentley's top two hitters have been freshman DH/1B Ryan Berardino (Sudbury/Lincoln-Sudbury Reg. HS) and sophomore RF Austin Farry (Watertown/Watertown HS). Berardino is hitting .373 overall, including .406 over the last nine games since returning from injury. Farry (.302) is riding an 11-game hitting streak during which time he's  17 of 47 (.362).

Most of the team's power has come from sophomore OF/1B Brandon Grover (Rocky Hill, Conn./Rocky Hill HS), who leads the Falcons in doubles (9), homers (3), RBI (21), walks (19), runs scored (24) and slugging (.383).

Junior 3B Peter Bocchino (Saugus/Governors Academy) has also been swinging a hot bat of late, with a .355 average and two homers in his last nine games.

Potential starting pitchers for the Falcons Saturday are senior Jack Burke (Reading/St. John's Prep HS) and sophomore Luke Dawson (Stamford, Conn./Westhill HS), a pair of right-handers. Burke is 1-2 with a 3.59 ERA and Dawson 0-2 with a 4.46. Dawson, in his last two starts, has struck out 24, including a school-record 15 against St. Michael's.

Following the three games at Southern New Hampshire, Bentley will play a three-game series on the road with Merrimack Apr. 26-27, including completion of the Mar. 30 game that was suspended after 11 with the score knotted at four and resumed briefly on Apr. 12.
