Muir Named to ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove Team

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior center fielder Mike Muir (Bridgewater/Xaverian HS) is one of nine players nationwide selected for the 2014 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II Gold Glove team by the American Baseball Coaches Association for their fielding prowess.

After missing the 2013 season due to injury, Muir returned to action this year and tracked down 124 balls for the Falcons in 40 games, without committing an error.  He also recorded six assists during the season.

Muir's 124 putouts was the most among the three outfielders to make the Gold Glove team with Florida Southern's Keith Curcio making 121 in 54 games and North Alabama's Jake Ward 123 in 52. It was also the highest total without an error by an East Region outfielder during the last three seasons.

"Mike's coming back from injury and doing what he did in center was an amazing achievement," said 46-year Bentley head coach Bob DeFelice. "Because of his skills, we moved an All-Conference center fielder (Sean Keady) to left."

Muir, in addition to excelling in the field, batted .286 with 23 runs scored, 15 RBI and seven stolen bases.

As a team, Bentley posted a 22-18 record and finished third nationally in fielding percentage with a school record .976.
