Gold Glove Accolades for Muir

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University junior Mike Muir (Bridgewater/ Xaverian Bros. HS) has been selected for the 2014 Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association Division II East Region Gold Glove team after an outstanding season patrolling center field for the Falcons.

Muir tracked down 124 balls this season without an error as he returned to action after missing the 2013 season due to injury.  That was the most putouts recorded by an East Region outfielder without committing an error during the last three years.

Muir, who had at least five putouts in ten games, also recorded six assists. His presence allowed coach Bob DeFelice to move All-Conference outfielder Sean Keady from center to left.

At the plate, Muir hit .286 while generally batting in the fifth spot in the lineup. He had a .341 on base percentage, 23 runs scored, 15 RBI and seven stolen bases.

In other award news, senior shortstop Will Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) was named honorable mention Division II All-East Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

Brennan hit .318 with his 50 hits including 11 doubles, five triples and a home run. He was second on the team in hitting and slugging (.471), as well as runs (25), RBI (24) and on base percentage (.377).  The first-team All-Northeast-10 Conference shortstop finished his career with a .307 average.

Bentley posted a 22-18 record, including 21-15 against East Region teams and 17-10 against NE-10 opponents. Defensively, the Falcons shattered the school record for fielding percentage (.976), currently the fourth highest mark in Division II.
