RINDGE, N.H. – The trio of senior DH Dan Hennigan (Downingtown, Pa.), junior shortstop Dan Kemp (Sturbridge, Mass.) and sophomore first baseman Zach Mathieu (Derry, N.H.) combined for 11 hits, three homers and eight RBI as Franklin Pierce University, number 29 in the Collegiate Baseball Division II rankings, topped Bentley University, 9-2, in Northeast-10 Conference Northeast Division baseball Sunday afternoon at Pappas Field.

Bentley had a chance to take the early lead but winning pitcher Kevin McGowan (Nashua, N.H.), a sophomore righty, escaped a bases-loaded jam without damage.  Two batters into the bottom of the first, he had a two-run lead to work with as Kemp homered to left after Hennigan led off with a single.

The Falcons got one run back in the top of the second, junior Lamarre Rey (Lynn, Mass./Pingree School) leading off with a home run down the left field line. It was the second in as many games for the Bentley first baseman.

Mathieu made it a 4-1 game with a two-run homer in the third, and Hennigan extended the differential to five with a two-run single in the fourth. The Ravens added a run in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, and made it a 9-1 game with two more in the eighth, the last run scoring on Kemp's second round-tripper of the day.

Bentley (18-18, 3-6 NE Division) had erupted for 14 ninth-inning runs in Saturday's 17-8 game-two win over the Ravens, but didn't have the same magic working in this one despite two singles to open the inning. Sophomore shortstop Will Brennan (Locust Valley, N.Y./Locust Valley HS) and freshman third baseman Nate Witkowski (Melrose, Mass./Malden Catholic HS) provided those, but only Brennan was able to score. A single through the right side by junior second baseman Logan Gillis (Merrimack, N.H./Lawrence Academy) delivered him from third base.

That was the second hit of the game for Gillis, who has now hit in 11 straight games for the second time this season. Since March 11, he's had at least one hit in 23 of 25 games.

As a team, the Falcons had 12 hits against the Ravens, the eighth straight game they've reached double figures, but stranded 11 on base, including six in scoring position. In addition to Gillis, Brennan, sophomore left fielder Sean Keady (Norwood, Mass./Norwood HS) and freshman center fielder Mike Muir (Bridgewater, Mass./Xaverian Bros. HS) had two hits for Bentley.

Kemp led the Franklin Pierce offensive with four hits and three RBI, and both Hennigan and Mathieu had three hits. In addition, sophomore left fielder Calvin Graves (Boston, Mass.) was 4-for-4 with two runs scored for the Ravens (23-12-1, 5-3-1 NE Division).

McGowan earned the win on the mound after allowing nine hits and one run in seven innings. He walked one and struck out three.

The next game for Bentley is Tuesday at Stonehill (3:30 pm).
