Three-Run Third Propels C.W. Post Past Bentley, 6-2; Falcon Win Streak Stopped at 3

WINTER PARK, Fla. – C.W. Post struck for three runs in the third inning and went on to a 6-2 win over Bentley University in non-conference college baseball Wednesday afternoon at Rollins College's Alfond Stadium. The loss snapped the Falcons' winning streak at three.

Bentley got on the scoreboard first with junior first baseman Lamarre Rey (Lynn, Mass./Pingree School) reaching on an error and scoring on a two-out single to center by senior catcher Kevin Korwek (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand HS).

A four-hit third for the 6-6 Pioneers began with sophomore first baseman P.J. Jennings (Morris Plains, N.J.) leading off with a double to right center. He didn't spend much time on base before coming home with the tying run as sophomore left fielder Vincent Iacano (Nesconset, N.Y.) doubled down the left field line on the very next pitch. Later in the innings, sophomore DH Connor Coman (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and senior right fielder Matt Simone (West Islip, N.Y.) delivered RBI singles.

Bentley got one run back in the top of the sixth when junior second baseman Logan Gillis (Merrimack, N.H./Lawrence Academy) walked, moved to third on a throwing error and scored on Rey's single to left.

C.W. Post restored the two-run lead in the last of the sixth, junior shortstop Keith Herring (New York, N.Y.) scoring on a bases loaded walk. RBI singles by junior second baseman Angel Pimentel (New York, N.Y.) and Coman in the bottom of the eighth tacked on some insurance for the Pioneers.

Junior righty Bo Budkevics (Deer Park, N.Y.) authored a complete game four-hitter to record his third win in four decisions, striking out eight in the process. Freshman lefty Ryan O'Connor (Newburyport, Mass./ Newburyport HS) took the loss after giving up six hits and four runs in six innings of work.

Korwek had two hits for Bentley, and Coman, Simone and Herring each had two for the Pioneers.

Bentley, 5-10 overall and 5-3 against East Region opposition, continues its Florida trip with a 1 pm game against Bridgeport in Ormond Beach Thursday.
