Mello-Klein, Davies & Brazicki Honored as Bentley’s Top Senior Athletes

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University handed out its Outstanding Senior Athlete awards on Friday with men's basketball guard Jordan Mello-Klein (Sharon/Thayer Academy) and women's track standout Chase Davies (Marblehead/Marblehead HS) the recipients.

In addition, the Edward J. Powers Scholar-Athlete Award was presented to football's Andrew Brazicki (Franklin Park, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas HS). The Powers Award, which has been presented since 1965 to Bentley's premier senior scholar-athlete, is named in honor of the late President of the Boston Garden who was an alumnus and trustee of what was then Bentley College.

Mello-Klein led the Falcons to a 25-5 record, the Northeast-10 Northeast Division title, the Northeast-10 championship, the NCAA Division II East Region championship, a national ranking and the NCAA Division II Elite Eight. He was the Most Outstanding Player of both the NE10 championships and the East Regional.

The graduate guard averaged 15 points, 8.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists this season. To put that into perspective, there are about 4,000 Division II men's basketball players nationwide, and Mello-Klein was the only one to achieve each of those benchmarks.

Mello-Klein, who was eighth in Division II in defensive rebounds, finished his career with 1,249 points, 685 rebounds and 491 assists. No other player in program history reached each of those totals.

As a senior, Davies finished second in the Northeast-10 Conference in both the pentathlon indoors and the heptathlon outdoors, both with school record-breaking performances. Her conference finishes have also included fifth in the 100 hurdles outdoors and sixth in the 60 hurdles indoors.

Davies, who was the 2021 NE10 heptathlon champion, has regularly broken school records since transferring from St. Lawrence University. She finished her career as the standard bearer in the 55-meter hurdles, the 60 hurdles and the 100 hurdles as well as the two multi-event competitions.

This spring, Davies lowered the 100-meter hurdle record from 15.26 seconds to 14.64, a decrease of nearly two-thirds of a second.

Brazicki, the number three rusher in Bentley football history (2,276 yards), twice earned CoSIDA Division II Academic All-America honors. He was a first-team honoree in 2020-21 and a second-team selection last fall.

Bentley's leading rusher each year during his career, Brazicki never missed a game as a Falcon, playing in all 41. He helped the Falcons win the 2019 Northeast-10 championship and earn a berth to the 2021 NCAA playoffs following a 9-1 regular season.

Brazicki, after graduating Magna Cum Laude last May with a degree in corporate finance and accounting, is pursuing his MBA, with a concentration in finance. He achieved a 3.68 as an undergraduate and has a 3.72 in graduate school.
