Matuty and Cook Both Win Twice as Bentley Tops Simmons in Finale, 8-1
BRIGHTON, Mass. – Seniors Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) and Alyssa Cook (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) both won twice in their final match to help the Bentley University women's tennis team to an 8-1 victory over Simmons on Friday afternoon in the final match of the season.
Matuty won in No. 1 doubles, along with Adriana Hiraldo (San Juan, P.R.), and Cook won in No. 3 doubles with partner Rachel Holden (Pomfret, Conn./Woodstock).
In singles, Matuty was victorious in the No. 2 match without dropping a game 6-0, 6-0. Cook was a 6-3, 6-0 winner in No. 5 singles.
Bentley got off to a good start by winning all three of the doubles matches. Matuty and Hiraldo combined for an 8-0 victory in No. 1 and Remi LeSage (Sarasota, Fla./IMG) and Zoe Chin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) won by the same score in the No. 2 contest.
Cook and Holden won by an 8-4 score in the No. 3 match.
In singles action, Bentley's other winners along with Matuty and Cook were junior Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), sophomore Libby Keefe (Lowell, Mass./Lowell) and junior Anna Higgins (Andover, Mass./Andover).
Romagnano won by a 6-2, 6-0 score in No. 1, Keefe 6-0, 6-3 in No. 4 and Higgins 6-0, 6-0 in No. 6.
