Matuty and Mella Win in Singles vs. Holy Cross
WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) and freshman Maria Mella (Santo Domingo, D.R.) posted wins in singles for the Bentley women's tennis team against Division I Holy Cross on Friday afternoon.
Mella won in No. 1 singles and Matuty in No. 3 singles, but the Falcons were defeated 5-2.
Mella posted a 7-6, 6-3 win over Holy Cross' Maddie Denucci, a senior. Matuty was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Courtney Kallas.
The other Falcons in singles action were Adriana Hiraldo (San Juan, P.R.) in No. 2, Remi LeSage (Sarasota, Fla./IMG) in No. 4, Anna Lang (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) in No. 5 and Alyssa Cook (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) in No. 6.
The doubles pairings were Mella and Hiraldo in No. 1, Matuty and Lang in No. 2 and LeSage and Rachel Holden (Pomfret, Conn./Woodstock) in No. 3.
Holy Cross improved to 6-11 on the season with the win, and the Falcons dropped to 5-11-1.
Bentley's next match will be on Friday, April 15 at Simmons for its final match of the season. First serve is set for 3:30 pm.
