Providence Tops Bentley 7-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – Division I Providence College picked up its fourth win of the season with a 7-0 victory over Bentley University in a non-conference match on Thursday.

The Friars, who compete in the Big East Conference, won all of the matches on the board.

Senior Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) highlighted Bentley's efforts with a three sets match in No. 4 singles against Providence's Vannelie Melendez. Matuty won the first set 6-4, but Melendez rallied to win the second set in a tiebreaker 7-6, then she won the third set tiebreak 10-6.

The rest of Bentley's singles lineup saw Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) in No. 1, Maria Mella (Santo Domingo, D.R.) in No. 2, Adriana Hiraldo (San Juan, P.R.) in No. 3, Zoe Chin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) in No. 5 and Rachel Holden (Pomfret, Conn./Woodstock) in No. 6.

The doubles pairings were Mella and Hiraldo in No. 1, Romagnano and Matuty in No. 2 and Anna Lang and Remi LeSage in No. 3.

Bentley will next be in action when they host Post on Sunday at 1:00 PM.
