New Haven Snaps Bentley’s Streak with 5-2 Victory

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University saw its two-match winning streak halted by visiting New Haven, as the Chargers came away with a 5-2 victory over the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon.

New Haven (3-2, 3-2 NE10) won the doubles point by winning two of the three matches, No. 1 and 3. The Chargers then won four of six in singles to take the match.

In the doubles matches Bentley's team in the No. 2 spot, team captains Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras) and Makena Romagnano (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany), defeated New Haven's team of Karim Carreras and Lilia Rodriguez, 6-4.

The Chargers though took the doubles point, helped by winning a tight contest in the No. 3 spot, contested by Olivia Martinelli and Alexa Orlando and Bentley's Anna Lang (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Remi LeSage (Sarasota, Fla./IMG), by a 7-6 score.

In singles action, sophomore Adriana Hiraldo (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Zoe Chin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) won their matches for Bentley.

Hiraldo triumphed over Gaayatri Shankar in No. 3, 7-6, 3-0. Chin was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Abby Murphy in No. 6.

The Falcons (2-2, 2-2 NE10) next play on Friday at Franklin Pierce.
