Bentley Uses Strong Singles Play to Down Assumption 4-3

WALTHAM, Mass. – Bentley University won four of the six singles matches to down Assumption 4-3 in Northeast-10 women's tennis action on Tuesday.

Senior captain Alessa Matuty (San Pedro Sula, Honduras), sophomores Remi LeSage (Sarasota, Fla./IMG) and Libby Keefe (Lowell, Mass./Lowell Catholic) and freshman Maria Mella (Santo Domingo, D.R.) won their singles matches to propel Bentley to the victory.

Anna Lang (Madison, Conn./Daniel Hand) and Zoe Chin (Lexington, Mass./Lexington) also won in doubles in No. 3 for Bentley.

Assumption led 1-0 after doubles, but Bentley rallied in the singles portion of the match.

Mella won in No. 2 in three sets over Assumption's Caitlin Sze, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2. Matuty defeated Yana Semerly in three sets in No. 4, 6-1, 2-6, 6-2. Those were the final two matches to finish to give Bentley the win.

LeSage in No. 5 and Keefe in No. 6 were straight sets winners. LeSage defeated Alexis Connolly 7-5, 6-1 and Keefe bettered Jessica Crosby 6-0, 6-1.

The win evened Bentley's record on the season to 1-1. They will be back in action on Wednesday at Post for a non-conference match.
