Velasquez Named Assistant Football Coach

Rob Velasquez, a 2006 graduate of Endicott College, has been named an assistant football coach at Bentley University, head coach Thom Boerman announced. Velasquez will coach the offensive line and also serve as the Falcons’ Recruiting Coordinator.
Six Former Falcons Recognized by National Football Foundation

Six former Bentley University football players have been recognized by the National Football Foundation with selection to the 2012 Hampshire Honor Society. They are punter Mike Brownett (Branchburg, N.J./Immaculata HS), wide receiver Wade Critides (Wayland/Wayland HS), quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS), defensive end Sal Ruffino (Allentown, Pa./Central Catholic HS), H-back Will Spring (Concord/Lawrence Academy) and tight end Bart Stires (Glendale, Ariz./Brophy Prep).
2012 Bentley Football Recruiting Class Announced

Nineteen student-athletes, including 14 from Massachusetts, have signed either National Letters of Intent or commitment letters to attend Bentley University and play football for the Falcons, head coach Thom Boerman announced.
Johnson, Sideris & Switzer Senior Award Recipients

Three-year starting quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS) and field hockey All-America Stephanie Sideris (Watertown/Watertown HS) have been named the Outstanding Senior Athletes at Bentley University, and hockey standout Mike Switzer (Calgary, Alberta/ Olds Grizzlys) was selected as the 2011-12 recipient of the Edward J. Powers Award as Bentley’s premier senior student-athlete.

Four members of the Bentley University Falcons, including three graduate students, have been selected to the 11-player Academic All-Northeast-10 Conference football team, the conference office announced. Earning the prestigious honor were quarterback Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS), wide receiver Wade Critides (Wayland/Wayland HS), tight end Bart Stires (Glendale, Ariz./Brophy Prep) and the lone undergraduate student recognized, junior placekicker Will Lockwood (Menlo Park, Calif./Sacred Heart Prep).

Bentley University’s Bryant Johnson (Hopedale/Milford HS) and Mike Brownett (Branchburg, N.J./Immaculata HS) have been selected to the 2011 Capital One NCAA Division II Academic All-District team for Super Region 1 by the region’s sports information directors. Super Region 1 includes the Northeast-10 Conference, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

The final curtain on the 2011 Bentley University football season and the collegiate playing careers of up to 18 players will come down Saturday afternoon after the Falcons take on Assumption College in the annual Senior Day game. Kickoff for Bentley’s sixth home contest of the season is set for 1 pm. Prior to the contest, 14 Bentley seniors and four grad students will be recognized for their contributions to the program over the years.
