Fahey, Nichols Lead Bentley Women in UMass-Dartmouth Shriners Invitational
NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – Junior Caitlin Fahey (Bridgewater/Coyle-Cassidy HS) and sophomore Ashley Nichols (Kenmore, Wash./Inglemoor HS) were the top finishers for the Bentley University women's cross country team during the UMass-Dartmouth Shriners Invitational Saturday morning. Both recorded the best 5,000-meter times of their career.
Fahey was tenth in 18:51 and Nichols was 14th in 19:11. A total of 258 runners participated in the varsity race.
The efforts of those two helped Bentley finish seventh among 37 teams, with a score of 264. The top six consisted of MIT (25), Coast Guard (109), Wellesley (114), Brandeis (148), Salisbury (160) and UMass-Lowell (179).
Bentley's number three runner was senior captain Evelyn Marrero (Amsterdam, N.Y./ Amsterdam HS), who was 49th in 19:59.
Brooke Johnson, one of five MIT runners in the top nine, won the race in 17:55.
Next Saturday, Bentley will compete in the Codfish Bowl at Franklin Park.
