Falcons fall to New Haven in NE10 Semifinal

GARDEN CITY, New York – Three Falcons totaled at least eight kills each, but the #3 Bentley volleyball team lost a Northeast-10 semifinal match, 3-1 (23-25, 25-15, 25-13, 25-20), against #2 New Haven Friday night. Top-seeded Adelphi hosted the match.

Caitlin Wunder and Rachel Vitko both came away with eight kills, and Ellie Wheeler finished with a team-high nine.

Three Falcons posted at least 10 digs, led by 14 from Jazzy Burke. Ingrid Murphy and Ali Steussi finished with 13 and 11, respectively.

Bentley got off to a promising start, winning the first set by a score of 25-23. A 4-0 run allowed Bentley to take its first lead of the set, 14-13. A kill by Murphy followed by a Burke ace pushed the lead to 16-14. The frame was tied at 18 when the Falcons went on another 4-0 run. Murphy accounted for half of those points with an ace and a kill.

The Chargers got to within one point, 23-22, but a kill by Wheeler and a New Haven error sealed the opening set.

The Falcons held a 13-12 lead in the second set, but then New Haven went on an 11-0 run.

Bentley seldom held a lead in either of the final two sets.
