Falcons erase 2-0 deficit to beat Assumption

WORCESTER, Mass. – Ellie Wheeler put away a season-high 18 kills to lead the Bentley volleyball team to a come-from-behind five-set win at Assumption Tuesday night.

The Falcons dropped the first two sets against the Greyhounds, but Bentley began to find its resolve in the third set. Bentley raced out to a 7-3 lead in the third frame, and the Falcons kept their foot on the gas by taking an 18-10 advantage. Elizabeth Blinn sealed the set with one of her four kills on the evening.

Bentley didn't let up in the fourth set, jumping out to a 12-5 advantage following back-to-back kills by Caitlin Wunder and Rachel Vitko. Assumption did not get to within five points of Bentley for the rest of the set.

Assumption never held a lead in the third nor fourth sets, but it was briefly ahead early in the fifth stanza. The score was tied, 4-4, when an error by the Greyhounds sparked a 6-1 run for Bentley. It was all the Falcons needed to complete the comeback win.

Wheeler's 18 kills are the most she has had since finishing with 21 in a match during the 2021-22 season. Vitko reached double digits in kills with 10, and Natalie Thom added 25 assists.

Bentley celebrates its seniors Friday, Nov. 3, when it hosts Saint Rose at 6 p.m.
