Senior week begins at Assumption before the regular-season home finale

WALTHAM, Mass. – The winning streak may have recently ended, but the Bentley volleyball team has its sites on bigger things when the Falcons travel to Worcester, Mass. to take on Assumption Tuesday, Oct. 31, at 7 p.m. Bentley then hosts its 2023 regular-season home finale against Saint Rose Friday, Nov. 3, at 6 p.m.

 

Northeast-10 landscape

The Falcons are tied with Adelphi for second place in the NE10, as both teams carry a 6-1 conference record. New Haven is in first place with a 7-0 NE10 mark. American International is very much in the mix with a 6-2 conference record.

 

The streak ends

Bentley's longest winning streak in four years ended at 14 matches when the Falcons lost at New Haven in four sets last Friday (Oct. 27).

 

Blocks for Blinn

Elizabeth Blinn enters this week averaging 1.24 blocks per set. She ranks second in the conference and 10th in the nation.

 

Setting 'em up

The Falcons rank as the nation's second-best serving team, averaging 2.65 aces per set. The conference's sixth through 10th ranked leaders in service aces per set are all Falcons: Jazzy Burke (0.51), Ingrid Murphy (0.47), Elliet Manning, Lauren Hallas (0.46), Natalie Thom (0.44).

 

Murphy makes history

Ingrid Murphy became Bentley's ninth player in school history to reach 1,000 career kills a little over one week ago. She reached the milestone at home when Bentley swept Sothern Connecticut (Oct. 20).

 

Scouting Assumption (1-7, 6-12 NE10)

The Grey Hounds are last in the NE10 standings. The team is fourth in the conference in digs per set (16.75), and Brandi Montoya is fourth in the NE10 for the individual stat (4.37). Assumption has lost eight consecutive matches, and it has 12 losses in its last 13 outings.

 

Scouting Saint Rose (6-16, 2-6 NE10)

The Golden Knights snapped a four-match losing streak by sweeping Assumption in their most recent contest (Oct. 24). Jessica Vargas has the second-most kills in the NE10 (233), but the team's hitting percentage (.157) ranks 10th in the conference. The Golden Knights rank last in aces per set (1.58) and digs per set (13.68). However, the team plays well at the net – its 1.97 blocks per set ranks third in the NE10.
