Vitko comes up clutch in thrilling five-set win against AIC

WALTHAM, Mass. – Ellie Wheeler put away a team-high 15 kills, and Caitlin Wunder added 15, as the Bentley volleyball team beat American International in a thrilling 3-2 (25-17, 14-25, 25-22, 22-25, 23-21) Northeast-10 match Saturday afternoon in the Dana Center.

The Falcons (17-3, 5-0 NE10) remain undefeated in conference play while extending their winning streak to 13 games.

Bentley looked to be in control of the decisive fifth set when an ace by Murphy followed by a kill from Rachel Vitko gave the Falcons a 10-4 lead. But the Yellow Jackets weren't going away quietly.

AIC went on an 8-2 run to tie the set, 14-14. The Yellow Jackets committed an error to put Bentley one point away from victory, but AIC bounced back with consecutive kills to take a 16-15 edge.

Unphased by the pressure, Vitko put away a kill to keep Bentley in the game.

The teams went back and forth for several points, but an attack error by Bentley gave AIC a 21-20 lead. Vitko came up clutch once again, putting away a cross-court kill to even the score. AIC followed by committing an error, and then, for the third time in a few short minutes, Vitko clutched up. This time, she delivered a service ace that sealed the win for Bentley.

The Falcons are on the road for their next two contests, starting at New Haven Friday, Oct. 27.
