Wheeler Helps Bentley Win 19th, 3-0 at Assumption; Murphy Reaches 1,000 Digs

WORCESTER, Mass. – Junior Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kan./Saint James Academy) hit .667 with 12 kills in 15 attacks and senior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS) reached 1,000 digs for her career as Bentley University defeated Assumption University, 3-0, in non-conference women's volleyball Tuesday night at Laska Gymnasium. The scores were 25-19, 25-9 and 25-16.

Bentley improved to 19-5 overall with its 16th victory in 18 matches against East Region opposition. The Falcons had three times as many kills as the 1-14 Greyhounds, 42-14, and outhit the home team, .252-.022. The visitors also recorded 11 of the match's 13 aces.

The opening set featured five kills in six swings by Wheeler as well as four aces from sophomore Rachel Vitko (Dover, N.H./Dover HS). She finished the match with five.

Bentley put away the second set with an 18-2 run that included four kills by Murphy. Graduate student Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) was on the serve for the final seven points and assisted on Wheeler's kill for set point.

The final set included a 14-2 Bentley run and four kills by both Murphy and six-four junior Caitlin Wunder (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy).

Murphy, who finished the night with exactly 1,000 career digs, recorded a 10-kill, 17-dig double-double.

A stretch of three straight road matches for the Falcons will continue this weekend with Bentley at Saint Rose Friday and at Le Moyne Saturday.
