Bentley Downs New Haven to Improve to 12-0 at Home

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) made a career-best 31 digs and the trio of senior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS), junior Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kan./Saint James Academy) and freshman Elizabeth Blinn (Concord, N.H./Concord HS) combined for 37 kills as the Bentley University women's volleyball team downed the University of New Haven, 3-1, Friday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Dana Center.

With the 25-18, 25-22, 23-25, 25-19 victory, Bentley stayed unbeaten in 12 home matches and improved to 18-5 overall, including 7-1 NE10. Against East Region competition, the Falcons won for the 15th time in 17 matches.

Bentley closed out the opening set by scoring the final five points, a run that featured three kills by Murphy. In the first, she hit .600 with six kills in ten swings.

Murphy had a pair of aces late in the second set and junior Caitlin Wunder (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) had the set-ending kill to make it 2-0.

After the Chargers (12-9, 3-3 NE10) took the third, Bentley started fast in the fourth, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. The visitors battled back to tie the set at 12, but the Falcons locked up the win with a closing 13-7 run.

Murphy finished with 14 kills and 21 digs, and Wheeler added 13 kills and two blocks. Blinn hit .562 with ten kills and only one error, and also was involved in five blocks.

Junior Angie Grabmeier (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) had a career-high 27 assists, and grad student Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) continued to fill the stat sheet with 20 assists, nine digs, five kills, two aces and two blocks.

Bentley had a big edge in kills, 57-34, and outhit the Chargers, .169-.051. Defensively, the Falcons had a season-high 93 digs and made nine blocks.

The Falcons are on the road for three matches this coming week, beginning Tuesday with a non-conference counter at Assumption.
