Bentley Volleyball Sweeps Day 1 in IVHOF Clash

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ­­– It was an impressive day one performance for the Bentley University Falcons during the International Volleyball Hall of Fame Clash at American International College Friday.

Coach Joey Pacis' Falcons improved to 7-3 by sweeping both Molloy College and Saint Anselm College. The scores against Molloy were 25-11, 25-19 and 26-24 while Bentley downed the Hawks, 25-23, 25-12 and 25-19.

Graduate student Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) led the way in the afternoon match as she hit an impressive .556 with 10 kills and no errors in 18 assists. She also had eight assists and three digs.

Bentley also received six kills apiece from senior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS) and junior Caitlin Wunder (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy). Junior Angie Grabmeier (Hopkinton/Hopkinton HS) added three aces in the victory.

In the third set, Bentley put the match away by scoring the final five points after trailing 24-21. That closing burst included a kill by Wunder and an ace from  sophomore Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS)..

Junior Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./St. James Academy) led the Falcons in the nightcap with 12 kills and a .321 hitting percentage against Saint Anselm. Parker had five kills, completing a day in which she totaled 15 kills in 30 swings without an error.

Bentley served ten aces in the match, including two apiece by Parker, Murphy, Burke and junior Natalie Thom (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS).

The Falcons outhit Molloy, .260-.138, and Saint Anselm, .269-.174.

The tournament continues on Saturday with Bentley facing Bridgeport at 2:30 pm and defending NCAA Division II East Regional champion Daemen at 5 pm. Both will be streamed over www.NE10NOW.tv.
