Parker Shines as Bentley Outlasts AIC to Finish Hoffman Tournament 4-0

WALTHAM, Mass. – During her three decades as Bentley University's head volleyball coach, the late Sandy Hoffman's motto was Get Tough.

That's what graduate student Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) did Saturday night as she led the Falcons to a 3-1 win over American International in the final game of the tournament that now bears her name, the Hoffman Memorial at the Dana Center.

After becoming the first Falcon in 19 years to record a triple-double, Parker completed an outstanding all-around effort with a match-ending block. That produced a 30-28 victory in the fourth set and secured a 4-0 weekend for the Falcons. That's Bentley's best start since 2005.

The scores against the defending Northeast-10 champions were 25-20, 25-18, 21-25 and 30-28 with the third set loss Bentley's only one of the weekend. Earlier on Saturday, the Falcons swept Valdosta State, 25-19, 25-22 and 25-22.

Parker, while splitting her time between setter and outside hitter, stuffed the stat sheet with a career-high 15 kills, 24 assists, 14 digs and three aces, in addition to the four rejections. She hit a solid .324 as Bentley handed the Yellow Jackets their first loss.

Bentley also received 13 kills from junior Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kan./Saint James Academy) and ten from senior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS). Murphy also provided 19 digs and three blocks.

Junior Natalie Thom (Okemos, Mich./Okemos HS) led Bentley with 28 assists, grad student Katie Rounds (McFarland, Wis./McFarland HS) blocked five shots and sophomore Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) matched Murphy in digs.

Parker also played a key role in the sweep of the Valdosta State Blazers as she amassed seven kills, 14 assists, eight digs and three blocks. Included was a match-ending kill after Valdosta drew within two points.

Wheeler put down 11 kills, junior Angie Grabmeier (Holliston/Holliston HS) served four aces, Burke made 20 digs and senior Jolie Schmidt (Louisville, Ky./Ardrey Kell HS (N.C.) made five blocks in the opening set.

Next weekend, Bentley will compete in the University of Indianapolis Invitational with matches against Grand Valley State, UIndy, Ohio Dominican and Ashland.
