Wheeler Helps Bentley Sweep Pace; Falcons Improve to 9-2 in Last 11 Matches

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – After having its five-match winning streak halted on Friday night, the Bentley University women's volleyball got back on track Saturday with a three-set sweep of Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Goldstein Fitness Center. The scores were 25-17, 25-21 and 27-25.

The victory, Bentley's ninth in its last 11 matches, boosted the Falcons to 13-8 overall and 8-2 NE10, good for a tie for third with four left to play in the regular season. Pace dropped to 1-17 overall and 0-10 conference.

Sophomore Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Academy) was impressive with the double-double her ninth of the season. She hit an even .500 with 17 kills and 14 digs.

Classmate Rachel Vitko (Dover, N.H./Dover HS) followed with ten kills and senior setter Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) delivered 37 assists. She completed her double-double with 11 digs.

Bentley was in control of the first two sets, jumping out to leads of 8-1 in the first and 9-4 in the second.

Pace led the third, 24-23, before the Falcons tallied four of the final five points. That surge included kills by Vitko and Wheeler, and match point came from senior Shannon Ngo (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda HS) on an aceBentley finished with a .296 hitting percentage, including .452 in the opening set, and Pace posted a .157.

The Falcons will be back home next weekend to host Stonehill on Friday and American International on Saturday afternoon.
