Adelphi Cools Off Bentley in 4 Sets; Falcons Had Won 8 of 9

GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – After winning eight of its last nine matches, the Bentley University Falcons fell to Adelphi University, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference women's volleyball Friday evening at the Center for Recreation and Sport. The scores were 25-17, 25-19, 24-26 and 25-22.

Bentley dropped from second into a tie for third in the NE10 and will take records of 12-8 overall and 7-2 NE10 into Saturday afternoon's match at Pace University.  Adelphi improved to 15-8 overall and evened its conference record at .500, 4-4.

It was a tough hitting night for the Falcons who had one more attack error than kills in the first two sets, 15-14. They finished at just .085 while the Panthers hit .209.

Bentley came alive in the third set but saw a 19-12 lead disappear. After Adelphi tied the set at 24-all, back-to-back kills from sophomore Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Academy) got the Falcons back in the match.

Adelphi put the match in the win column in the fourth, using a losing 9-6 run to close out the visitors.

Wheeler and junior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit, Mass./Barnstable HS) led Bentley in kills, finishing with 15 and 13, respectively. Each also had 14 digs to earn the double-double, and Wheeler served three aces and Murphy made five blocks.

For Adelphi, Noelle Alberda had 16 kills, Kambel Fizer amassed 45 assists and 17 digs, and Jamie Yonker recorded 30 digs. As a team, the Panthers totaled 102 digs, 28 more than Bentley.
