Bentley Sweeps Saint Rose to Improve to 7-1 in the Northeast-10

WALTHAM, Mass. – Sophomore Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Academy) hit .443 with 15 kills, many of those assisted by senior Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles HS North), as Bentley University improved to 7-1 in the Northeast-10 Conference with a 25-12, 25-18, 25-19 victory over the College of Saint Rose in women's basketball Friday night at the Dana Center.

Bentley, which hit a season-best .355 and matched its second highest kill total of the season (51), Improved to 11-7 after winning its fourth straight and ninth in its last 11 matches.

The Falcons dominated the opening set, jumping out to an 18-4 lead and amassing 18 kills. Junior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS) had five of those and both Wheeler and senior Shannon Ngo (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda HS) each added four.

Six more kills by Wheeler, including set point, helped Bentley take the second set. Bentley put down 16 kills in the second, with Parker directly involved in all but one, with 13 assists and two kills of her own.

The Falcons swung at a .417 success rate in the closing set with both Wheeler and sophomore Maddy Kelley (Fitchburg, Wis./Verona Area HS) recording five kills. A shared block by Parker and junior Jolie Schmidt (Louisville, Ky./Ardrey Kell HS (N.C.)) accounted for match point.

Parker finished with 42 assists, a season-best for a three-set match, and also had three kills, eight digs, two blocks and an ace.

Saint Rose dropped to 7-14 overall and 1-6 NE10.

Bentley, a half-game out of first in the conference, concludes a four-game home stand Saturday at 1 pm against Le Moyne College.
