Parker Excels as Bentley Wins at Assumption, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – Senior setter Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) filled the stat sheet with 42 assists, eight digs, three blocks, two kills and an ace, leading Bentley University to a 3-1 victory over Assumption University Tuesday evening at Laska Gymnasium. She was directly involved in 44 of the team's kills in the match.

After the two teams split the first two sets (Bentley 25-23, Assumption 26-24), the Falcons took charge in the third (25-18) and hit an impressive .519 while dominating the fourth, 25-13.

Bentley, 8-3 in its last 11 matches, improved to 8-7 overall and 4-1 NE10. Assumption dropped to 6-5 overall with its second loss in six conference matches.

The Falcons closed the opening set with a 5-1 spurt after trailing 22-20. Kills from sophomore Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Acad.) and Caitlin Wunder (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) accounted for the final two points.

Bentley was up 24-22 in the second but gave up four straight points as the Greyhounds evened the match at one set apiece.

The third was even at 16 points apiece before Bentley took the lead in the match with a 9-2 run. Parker was involved with a kill and two blocks during the spurt.

The Falcons were never threatened in the fourth and clinching set, building leads of 5-1 and 14-6. Eight different players had kills in the fourth, including four from freshman Rachel Vitko (Dover, N.H./Dover HS) and three from Wheeler. Freshman Kiara Mayes (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain HS) served three of her four aces in the set.

Wheeler led Bentley in kills with 14, and the Falcons also received ten apiece from junior Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit/Barnstable HS) and senior Shannon Ngo (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda HS). Murphy completed her double-double with 17 digs and freshman Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) made 22 digs.

Bentley will return home to host Southern Connecticut Friday night.
