Stonehill Sweeps Bentley in Non-Conference Match

EASTON, Mass. – Despite 13 kills from sophomore Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Academy), the Bentley University Falcons were swept in a non-conference women's volleyball match by Stonehill College Tuesday evening at Merkert Gymnasium. The scores were 25-21, 25-19 and 25-20.

The match started out on a positive note for the Falcons with two aces from senior setter Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS), a kill by Wheeler and a Skyhawk attack error making it 4-0.

However, Stonehill (6-5) battled back to tie the set at 13 and scored the final six points to take a 1-0 lead.

Bentley never had the lead in the final two sets after falling behind 3-0 in both. The Skyhawks hit .321 in the second and .229 in the third, which limiting the Falcons to .219 and .129.

Senior Abby Remick (Chepachet, R.I.) recorded a double-double for Stonehill, finishing with 10 kills and 10 digs. Senior Clare Feeman (Shelby Charter Township, Mich.) and senior Shannon Burgess (Coconut Creek, Fla.) combined for 12 kills and no errors in 20 swings, a .600 success rate. Feeman also had six blocks and Burgess served three aces.

For the match, Stonehill had the edge in most categories, including hitting (.229-.129), aces (8-3) and blocks (7-3).

Bentley, 4-6, will begin its Northeast-10 Conference schedule on Saturday with a 1 pm match at Southern New Hampshire.
