Bentley Sweeps Queens for 4th Win in Last 5 Matches

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Sophomore Caitlin Wunder (Penn Yan, N.Y./Penn Yan Academy) provided 11 kills off the bench and graduate student Claudia Gonzalez-Iquina (Ponce, P.R.) served three aces as Bentley University posted a 3-0 victory over Queens College (N.Y.) in non-conference women's volleyball at Shippensburg University Saturday afternoon.

The 25-9, 25-23, 25-20 win was the fourth in the last five matches for Bentley (4-5).

Bentley was in front from the opening serve in the first set after opening leads of 3-0 and 11-4. Freshman Rachel Vitko (Dover, N.H./Dover HS) led the way with four kills and an ace in the set.

In the other two sets, there were a total of 14 ties and nine lead changes. Bentley finished the second with a 9-5 spurt after trailing 18-16, and in the third, it was a 12-7 closing burst after the two clubs were deadlocked at 13.

Sophomore Kiara Mayes (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain HS) handled the setting for Bentley and finished with 25 assists. Freshman Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) had a team-best 14 digs and junior Jolie Schmidt (Louisville, Ky./Audrey Keil HS (N.C.)) had three block assists.

Bentley hit .186 while limiting the Knights to a minus-.010, and also had nine aces.

The Falcons will continue their 11-match season-opening road trip Tuesday with a non-conference match at Stonehill.
