Bentley Splits 2 Matches to Finish Post Tournament with 2-1 Record

WATERBURY, Conn. – It was a 2-1 weekend for the Bentley University women's volleyball during the Post University Invitational after the Falcons split two matches on Saturday.

The Falcons swept the host team in their first match of the day before dropping a five-set battle to Holy Family University in their third match of the tournament. Scores in the back-and-forth match against the Tigers were 30-28, 19-25, 25-10, 21-25 and 9-15.

In the 25-13, 25-10, 25-20 victory over Post, junior outside hitter and 2019 Northeast-10 Rookie of the Year Ingrid Murphy (Cotuit, Mass./Barnstable HS) had her best hitting match of the season. She put down 14 kills while swinging at a .385 success rate.

Freshman outside hitter Rachel Vitko (Dover, N.H./Dover HS) added 10 kills, best of her young career. Senior setter Amanda Parker (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North HS) continued to fill the stat sheet, finishing with 27 assists, three aces, 13 digs and two blocks.

In the first match between Bentley and Holy Family since the Tigers upset the Falcons in the opening round of the 2019 NCAAA Division II East Regional, coach Joey Pacis' team gained the final three points to take the opening set. Parker and senior Shannon Ngo (San Rafael, Calif./Terra Linda HS) had a shared block. Parker made it 29-28 with a kill and Ngo closed out the set with a kill.

After Holy Family rebounded in the second, Bentley dominated the third with a .370 hitting percentage. The Falcons jumped out to a 7-2 start and built a 17-6 lead before coasting to the 15-point win.

Bentley fell behind 8-1 in the decisive fifth set and could never reduce the Tigers' lead to less than six points the rest of the way.

Sophomore Ellie Wheeler (Olathe, Kans./Saint James Academy) led Bentley with 16 kills and also provided the same number of digs and two blocks. Ngo hit .333 with 13 kills and was involved in six of the Falcons' ten blocks.

Parker again put up big numbers, with 41 kills, 21 digs, four blocks and four aces.

As a team in the lengthy match, Bentley had 112 digs, including 30 from freshman Jazzy Burke (Lake George, N.Y./Lake George Central HS) and 25 by Murphy. Both were career-bests.

Holy Family (3-1) was led by junior Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa.), with 20 kills and a .232 hitting percentage, and senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa.), with 28 digs.

Bentley, 2-5, will play at Shippensburg University Friday night and will take on Queens (N.Y.) at Shippensburg at 10 am Saturday morning.
