4 Bentley Volleyball Players Recognized by Northeast-10; Pacis Named Coach of the Year

WALTHAM, Mass. – Four members of the Bentley University women's volleyball team were recognized Tuesday when the Northeast-10 announced its All-Conference team, and acting head coach Joey Pacis was selected for the Sandy Hoffman Coach of the Year award.

Senior setter Alex Tator (Los Angeles, Calif./Marlborough School) and junior outside hitter Jaci Buscher (Lakewood, Colo./Green Mountain HS) were voted to the All-Northeast-10 second team, senior middle blocker Savannah Dominguez (Miami, Fla./Palmer Trinity School) was a third-team selection and sophomore Lauren Van Buren (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Massapequa HS) was chosen for the All-Rookie team.

The four helped Bentley finish the regular season at 16-10 overall, including 15-5 against East Region opponents, and earn a share of the Northeast-10 regular season championship. The Falcons are seeded third in this week's conference championships and were number four in last week's NCAA Division II East Region rankings.

Buscher, who was previously selected for the Capital One Division II Academic All-District 1 team, leads the Falcons in kills (2.64), points (3.14) and double-doubles (7), and is also second in digs (2.86).  She's had at least 20 kills three times, all coming in five-set wins for the Falcons, and Bentley is 6-1 when she posts a double-double.

Tator, a second-team All-Northeast-10 selection for the second time, has averaged 8.81 assists, 2.01 digs, 0.45 kills and 0.32 aces during her third year as Bentley's team captain. One of the program's all-time leaders in assists (2,827), she recorded 57 in a 3-2 win at New Haven, the Chargers' first-ever NE-10 regular season loss.

Dominguez, who earned first team All-Conference recognition in 2013, was honored despite missing 11 matches due to injuries. She was very productive when healthy, averaging 2.28 kills and a team-high 0.74 blocks.

Van Buren, whose freshman season ended with a knee injury in the fourth match of the year, has been in 21 matches this fall, playing a total of 42 sets on a senior-laden team. Her production has included 2.36 kills and 1.24 digs per set.

Pacis took over for Hoffman, whom the award is named, just before the season after the longtime coach stepped aside for health reasons. His team has won ten of its last 13, including wins at New Haven (the Chargers had been 94-0 in regular season conference games) and Adelphi, and is in the hunt for the program's first NCAA bid since 2009. This is the third time the Pacis has earned NE-10 Coach of the Year honors as he was recognized in 2007 and 2008 while coaching at Merrimack.
